Gay rights laws in america have evolved to allow but in some cases ban rights for gay, lesbian and transgender people on a range of issues, including marriage, hospital visitation, adoption. the gay rights movement in the united states began in the 1920s and saw huge progress in the 2000s, with laws prohibiting homosexual activity struck. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lgbt) rights in australia have advanced since the late-twentieth century. Lgbt people in australia are afforded protection from discrimination and are equally regarded as individuals who possess the same rights and responsibilities as others. In our subnational case studies, we find that lgbt organisations and leftist parties are important in both the us and mexico, but religious denomination is only important in the us.
